 Liberia has two seasons: dry and rain. Rainy season, from May to October, is brutal. In flooded rural communities, people struggle to feed themselves — and abandoned animals are left to fend for scraps in dumpsites. Dogs and cats are routinely poisoned or beaten. Veterinary care barely exists for those who cannot pay. This is the environment the Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society (LAWCS) works in every single week.

LAWCS is one of the only groups in the country delivering free outreach clinics and feeding programs for neglected dogs and cats. Their small team reaches more than 250 animals every week — animals who would otherwise die from open wounds, starvation, parasites, or preventable disease. Animals First Aid has formally partnered with LAWCS to help keep these clinics running and to deliver food and emergency care directly into the poorest, most remote areas.

Right now, LAWCS has asked us to help raise $5,000 so they can provide food and urgent medical care for more than 1,000 animals during the height of the rainy season. That money turns into deworming, vaccines, wound care, antibiotics, and actual meals. It also turns into something just as important: education. LAWCS teaches children and adults that animals feel pain, that kindness is strength, and that cruelty is not “normal.” When we support LAWCS, we’re not just saving animals in crisis — we’re changing what the next generation in Liberia believes is acceptable.
