This Little Cat Would Have Died in Pain, Alone in the Jungle!

Hidden along the Thailand-Myanmar border, beyond the tourist trails and far from modern veterinary care, a wounded cat struggled to survive alone in the jungle.

By the time she was discovered, one of her eyes was already gone.

The injury was severe. Infection had set in. Flies gathered around the wound. Weak and frightened, she wandered through the dense undergrowth searching for scraps of food and somewhere safe to hide.

In many places, an animal in this condition would still have a chance. Not here.

In the remote Sangkhlaburi, Thailand, region, there are no veterinary services available for vulnerable animals. Without intervention, this little cat almost certainly would have died slowly and unseen.

Then something extraordinary happened. As fate would have it, a local woman working on a rubber plantation found her. She tried her best to keep the cat alive using traditional herbal remedies to reduce infection and protect the open wound from insects. It was an act of pure compassion - and it bought this cat precious time.

Thanks in part to the support of Animals First Aid, our partner, the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary, was able to step in. The sanctuary’s clinic immediately provided antibiotics, pain medication, wound care, monitoring, and the medical attention this poor cat desperately needed. Day by day, her condition improved. She stopped hiding. She relaxed around people. She began to trust again.

Today, this sweet survivor is known as Tung Yai. She is estimated to be around five years old, and against all odds, she now has something almost unimaginable for a once-forgotten jungle cat:

A loving home.

The very woman who rescued her chose to keep her forever!
