These Dogs Survived War - But Are Now Marked For MASS KILLING!

A Humane Solution Exists - But Time Is Running Out. PLEASE HELP!

When families fled war and instability years ago, many brought with them the only comfort and protection they had left - their dogs.

The dogs guarded tents through the night. They barked when strangers approached. They comforted frightened children. They became part of families struggling to survive.

And now they have been left behind.

Following recent peace agreements and the voluntary repatriation of refugees from Tanzania’s Nyarugusu, Nduta, and Mtendeli refugee camps, an estimated 2,000 dogs now wander abandoned through the surrounding communities.

Hungry. Unvaccinated. Unwanted.

With the camps largely emptied, all veterinary support has disappeared. Rabies vaccination programs have stopped. Sterilization efforts have ended. No organization had stepped forward to help.

Until now.

Our partner on the ground, ADEL, recently conducted emergency assessments and community meetings throughout the area. What they found was heartbreaking - hundreds upon hundreds of abandoned dogs scavenging for food, growing weaker by the day, and increasingly viewed as a threat by frightened residents.

And now the situation is turning deadly!

Some local leaders and villagers, desperate and afraid of rabies outbreaks, have begun discussing mass killing as the solution - shooting, poisoning, and clubbing dogs to death.

Not because these dogs are vicious.

But because they have been forgotten.

The tragedy is that these methods are not only unimaginably cruel - they do not work. Scientific studies have repeatedly shown that mass killing does not stop rabies or control dog populations. Humane Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (TNVR) programs do.

But humane intervention requires resources.

And right now, time is running out.

Behind the number “2,000” are living beings who once belonged to someone. Dogs who slept beside children. Dogs who trusted people. Dogs who did not choose abandonment.

Today many are being chased from markets, stoned by frightened children, and slowly starving in places where they are no longer wanted.
